Ken Kelleher Unveils Six Monumental Sculptures for Boulevard Riyadh City
A family of large-scale Luminal Pop characters is commissioned for one of the Kingdom’s premier entertainment destinations.
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
RIYADH — Internationally recognized sculptor Ken Kelleher, also known as Anchorball, has completed six monumental fiberglass sculptures for Boulevard Riyadh City, a flagship destination of the Riyadh Season and one of the region’s largest sustainable entertainment hubs. The characters — Ellie, Elio, Iridessa, Fine Feather Friends, Garden Sasquatch and others — bring the world of Low Orbit City to the heart of the Kingdom.
Realized at architectural scale, each character is designed to register immediately within a dense, high-energy public environment while retaining the warmth and personality that define Kelleher’s practice. Together they form a constellation of landmarks that guide visitors, create meeting points and give the development a singular visual identity.
“
A great destination needs characters people fall in love with. At Boulevard Riyadh City, each sculpture becomes a landmark and a photograph and a memory. That’s what turns a place people visit into a place people return to.— Ken Kelleher (aka Anchorball)
For developers and cultural investors, the commission demonstrates how character-based public art can drive recognition and emotional connection at national scale — becoming cultural ambassadors for a place rather than ornamental additions to it.
The Boulevard Riyadh City project marks a major expansion of Kelleher’s Luminal Pop practice into the Middle East, establishing his characters as sculptural icons capable of defining architecture, landscape and identity.
