Dubai Hills Mall
The following sculptures I am honored to present for the Dubai Hills Mall. With each piece I’m looking at the narrative, considering the context and stories of the space, the people to develop forms that speak specifically to the place, have a balance of dynamic energy and form, while at the same time projecting the right personality and aesthetic.
The High Street
The art for this part of the mall explores high-end couture and fashion using striking contemporary forms and installations. For this site I’ll be showing a blend of new pieces, and ones I’ve designed previously that I think would be the right fit for the space.
The Flying Handbag
Blending a sense of the magical with that of beauty and couture - this sculpture is composed of loose, elegant forms that allude to flight, in the physical sense of how the elements are connected, as well as in the metaphorical sense of coming to a place of escape, where magic is real and you are set free. From the base of a pillow springs and elegant high heeled shoe - that springs out of a bird. The line of the sculpture ascends through the beautiful shape of the shoe, evoking the feminine, and through the elegant lines of a designer purse. This purse if being pulled through the air by a beautiful bird in flight, that holds a ring in it’s beak, and on the ring is a rose. To me this sculpture speaks of elegance, beauty, magic and charm. the ring is a ring of fidelity, and the rose is the rose of love.
The Flying Handbag / Rhino Variation
Similar to the original sculpture but with the addition of the Rhino as it’s base. The Rhino is like the saying of the bull in a china shop. He is elegant, a symbol of strength and carries with him a sense of joy. The combination of the beautiful Rhino, and the light feeling of the flying purse is both whimsical and magical, as well as timeless feeling. Similar to the sculptures seen in parks around city parks, the rubbed horn on the Rhino will become a touchstone of visitors to the mall. The patina will shine most on the horn and over time the piece may become a symbol of luck.
The Giant Snail
Similar above but done with a giant snail and no purse.
Velocity is about the motion of forms ascending upward, in a similar way the wing of a bird opens and the bird begins it’s ascent into the air. The form is about motion, speed and strength. The forms rise in an extended arc of fins that project in a harmonic and geometric pattern from the rounded base. The forms is striking and unique, and a evokes the idea of flight. The rise of each shape is full of energy and the symmetry speaks to balance and grace. It is geometric and elegant. It would be made of the highest quality stainless steel and have a honed finish, which will show the forms off in a beautiful and timeless way.
This sculpture is like a song spoken to my wife in her dream. The song is from her creator, who speaks her name. the most beautiful word ever heard.
The concept of this piece is rising in a spiral form, like a dancer, upwards toward the sky. The form spirals around a central invisible pillar, It is spontaneous feeling, quick and elegant. The rise is very dramatic, full of light and beautiful. The form evokes a wing being opened, or the energy of a dancer spinning, or the motion of a celestial being.

Inspired by brick lane in East London, famous for it’s hipster vibes. Galleries. Street art. Restaurants. Markets and musicians. The artwork explores the colorful celebration of it’s street depicting elements such as the colorful markets which sells a mish-mash of treasures. The amazing buskers spreading music in the street. The sense of community created by their outdoor food outlets. The artworks contrasted with the brick walls on which they’re painted and the gathering of people’s unique eclectic styles. The artwork is colorful, attractive, urban and contemporary at the same time.
A bear prepares himself for a dip in the water, bringing along his inflated unicorn swim tube. This piece is inspired by taking 2 unlike things and combining them in a unique way. A person wouldn’t think of these 2 things together, and when combined, and placed in the path of onlookers, the piece creates new meaning by both it’s humor and playfulness. The carved form of the bear, rendered in resin has a hand carved feel to it reminiscent of world fairs, or a carnival, which I think align perfectly with the Pavement concept. The unicorn swim tube is bright, colorful and a form that is very current in terms of trending ideas.
A different play on the unicorn. Similar to the previous piece, the strange, unlikely combination of these elements put the viewer back into childhood, in the frame of mind that is innocent, full of dreams, fantasy and imagination. The playfulness here provokes thought, especially as it light heartedness is rendered in beautiful stainless steel and bronze - bringing an elegance and timelessness to the whole vision.
The Beckoning Unicorn
The timelessness of material contrasted with the joy of imagination. The lightness of an impermanent pool toy, contrasted with the permanence of a sculpture rendered in mirror finish stainless steel. This challenges the viewers sense of aesthetics taste and invites wonder. In pieces like this I also invite the viewer to consider he beauty of the everyday forms all around us.
Soft and playful, it’s a though a tree and a cow decided to go surfing together and became intertwined. The idea is one of fun and play, the material soft, plush and inviting.
Name of the Rose
This sculpture takes the eternal beauty of the rose, and re-casts it in a modern interpretation of the form. The sculpture made out of hammered, hand forged elements feels light, like it is ready to take off. The form itself in this piece is what is playful and inspires joy.
A simple, dramatic form, this piece fits well in any setting. Strong, clear, a symbol of strength and contemplation. Shown here in core-ten steel it can be made in bronze, stainless or any color as well.
The idea of spinning a ball on ones finger - like a vision of the world or globe as well. This sculpture for me is inspired by as a kid having seen the famous act, the Harlem Globetrotters. In the show they perform many seemingly impossible things, including spinning the ball effortlessly on one finger at high speeds. Truly inspiring. For me the gesture is a vision of confidence with a sense of winning, or accomplishment.
A statement on the selfie culture, done with an ironic sensibility, shown as a fairytale princess.
Tropic of Capricorn
One of my early sculptures, this piece is all about form turning in on itself, in an organic and beautiful way. Taking steel and making it feel soft.
A playful exploration of a known object, that when multiplied, helps us see things in a new way. The spirit of art, contained, yet free.
The surprise and delight of finding a car floating in space, in a strange and unique way.
A sculpture created by merging 2BMW Mini’s together an making an ancient form - the column.
This is a sculpture made to be placed in a set of 2 or 3 pieces that relate to each other. They represent the hugs and kisses we share with our family and loved ones.
An archway that welcomes visitors and viewers alike. This sculpture speaks to the colors of life and the world.
The boulevard is a space designed with elegance and refinement emphasized by its high fashioned shops. Wide road. Lush landscaping and lanes for bicycles and pedestrian usage. The artwork explores these elements, whether its the the elegant housing found on either side of the boulevard. The sculptural topiary trees. The slow-walking pedestrians walking their dogs. The cars and the bicycles, the benches or the lampposts all of which create an atmosphere of sophistication and calmness to all those walking through.
The Quilted Couch
This quilted silver couch is the favorite spot of our special bunny to sit and watch the people in the mall. The idea for the couch is that it will be oversized and when adults sit in it their feet will hand down like they are kids again. The sculpture is meant to create an atmosphere of whimsy and joy, and create good humor. It’s also an excellent place to take pictures of friends (next to the bunny) - designate as a meeting spot for friends, or take a selfie:) The finishes can be reversed so the couch is in gold and the bunny is in silver also.
Elegance in motion around a central axis, this form describes the motion of a flame, an inner flame of the heart, which is eternal.
This form is like wings, soft and organic, layers, leaning into each other like flower petals or a wave. It’s a perfect sculpture for a boulevard setting, along a garden, in the midst of topiary. Subtle and soft, this piece evokes harmony and is about the feeling of awakening.
A spire that turns upward toward the sun, Becoming is dynamic and fluid, like mathematics in motion, or the lines of a wave in the wind. This form is about the process of transformation, change and movement, of one thing becoming another, never remaining the same.
The timeless symbol of infinity done in a voluptuous way, similar to how Botticelli may have painted a reclining figure, this form invites fun and contemplation of the infinite within us.
Similar to Infinity, but a variation of interlocked forms that symbolize the ebb and flow of life. It represents the inner flow of energy found in who we are.
Seed tp me is like a planet, an asteroid, or as the name says a seed. What information does it contain, what DNA, what data? What will this seed form become? What does it contain? This form is full of mysteries that are yet unnamed. perhaps is came from another solar system. Perhaps it embodies all that is unique around us.
Playful and elegant, Curvy embodies the joy of play, of a wave, of elements blown on the wind. It reflects us as we look into it’s playful spirit. A cascading set of arcs, like a dance, it springs up from the ground.
Inspired by the small paved walkways in Europe, the Artwork selected picks up on these natural elements creating a sense of calmness and serenity. Experience the walkway paved with stones, the shops of artisans with their unique shopfronts, the vines intertwining throughout the trees, and the open sky filled with natural sunlight and birds.
Like the edge of a planet, or a line drawn by the artist’s hand, the Arc curves up upward, in a graceful arc toward infinity. The form is elemental, fluid, and describes elegance and simplicity. The two small hexagonal shapes pull the eye upward toward it’s peak, like abstract birds resting on a tree.
A beautiful tree in reflective mesh made by arcs and half arcs. To me this piece is musical, expressive and also expresses the idea of the tree of life.
Subtle organic forms converge in a dense, fluid way. The result is a flowing form that invites and reflects. The beauty and drama are self contained, and to be discovered by the viewer as they explore the piece.
Another self contained form. This piece is about beauty in motion, rhythm, harmony and repetition. The forms spiral around a fixed center to create a piece that speaks to the undiscovered within us. It’s named Framerate in reference to frames of a film, shown at a certain rate, with light shining through them, can create a new world for us to explore.
Two massive pillars of stone, are captured in an embrace that holds them together, suspends time, refers to the mysteries of nature, physics and the space and beauty found around massive objects.
Similar to the sculpture Becoming, this variation moves in a beautifully spun spiral toward the sky. the spire is fluid and smooth, reflecting light to the spaces all around it, like a dancer spinning in the light.
A song to the sky, the fins and arcs of this sculpture celebrate fluidity, dance, motion and light.
SuperRad is to me like a portal or entrance into a new unknown place. unseen forces are at work. The piece is like a still whirlwind, in motion, and captivatingly still at the same time. With it’s mirrored surface, it’s a form of contemplation and reflection.
The perfect sculpture for a public space with foot traffic. This sculpture wants to be explored, climbed on and played with. The waves an beautiful flowing arcs. The cutout shapes become windows of light.
Like a shell by the sea, a timeless elegant form. An expression of the universal found in nature.
This sculpture is about energy and strength rising. It would also make a beautiful fountain.
To me this sculpture represents the feeling of listening deeply to someone.
